Humility

The Lie:

I have to be negative towards myself in order to stay humble.

Why It's A Lie:

That's not how Heavenly Father works. Yes, He wants us to be humble, but humility does not come through degrading ourselves. Instead, humility is recognizing our infinite worth, and that it comes because of God. 

It's really easy, though. Sometimes it's things like, "No, you really don't look that nice. No, you might look pretty to you, but other people don't think so. You're being too loud. Stop acting like a know-it-all." The list could go on and on. But that's how Satan warps it. Wanting, trying, reminding yourself to be humble--that's good. That's amazing. And Satan doesn't want that, so he takes those reminders and says, "You have to lower yourself because you're too high. You're cocky." But humility isn't degrading yourself. It's recognizing your worth, recognizing that it comes from God and thanking Him for it. When we praise Him, thank Him, and do things for others because He is watching, then we are humble.
